Breast Cancer Awareness

-

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide. Nevertheless, when found early, and if adequate diagnosis and treatment are available, there is a good chance that breast cancer can be cured. In 2021, WHO established the WHO Global Breast Cancer Initiative with the aim of reducing global cancer mortality by 2.5% per year.

In line with this initiative, Breast cancer awareness seminar was conducted at ASAB on 30th October 2023 to increase awareness, early detection, treatment, and palliative care for this disease. The slogan for the seminar was “Pink together stronger forever”.

Guest speakers from NUST School of Health Sciences (NSHS) were invited for the event. Dr. Nadia, Associate Professor Community Medicine, NSHS, stressed on public health education to improve awareness of global statistics, epidemiology  and importance of screening. Dr. Ayesha Professor of Anatomy, NSHS, elaborated on the anatomical aspects, presentation and clinical correlation of breast cancer. Dr. Maliha, Professor of Surgery, NSHS, discussed detection modalities, breast cancer management and specialized centers for treatment.
