Inauguration of Clinical Skill Lab

-

The inauguration of the NSHS Clinical Skill Lab by Secretary Health Dr. Iftikhar Ali Shallwani on 5th Dec 2023 marks a transformative leap in medical education, providing hands-on training within a non-threatening environment for the acquisition of crucial clinical skills. This initiative, fueled by the vision to cultivate a culture of skill development, has been made possible through a generous donation of manikins from Jhpiego, an NGO associated with Johns Hopkins University, facilitated by the dedicated efforts of the Department of Medical Education. The lab exposes students to diverse manikins and simulators across medical disciplines, emphasizing competence-based learning and prioritizing patient safety. The carefully curated curriculum blends theory and practical experience, with an initial focus on foundational skills such as history-taking, communication, and Basic Life Support training. Future plans include incorporating high-fidelity simulations, innovative practices like robotic surgeries, and AI-based simulations for teaching both basic and clinical sciences. Positioned as a hub for innovation and practical learning, the lab embodies NUST’s commitment to continuous learning, adaptability, and sustainability in the evolving landscape of medical education.
