World Food Day
-Nurturing a Sustainable Future: World Food Day 2025 Celebrated at NUST School of Health Sciences
On October 21, 2025, the Department of Human Nutrition and Dietetics (HND) at NUST School of Health Sciences (NSHS) marked World Food Day under the global theme, “Hand in Hand for Better Food and Better Future.” The event, held at the NSHS Courtyard and Lecture Hall 2, brought together experts, students, and faculty to explore key topics on nutrition and sustainability. Dr. Abdul Momin Rizwan Ahmad, Head of HND, opened the event by emphasizing the vital role of nutrition professionals in advancing global food security.
Keynote speakers included Mr. Faiz Rasool, Head of Policy & Advocacy at the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), who discussed policy frameworks for improving nutrition, and Prof. Dr. Yasir Waheed, Head of Research at NSHS, who shared insights on research-driven approaches to cereal production. A dynamic panel discussion featured leading experts such as Prof. Dr. Umar Farooq (NUMS), Dr. Adeela Ghazanfar (JSPPL, NUST), Mr. Faiz Rasool (GAIN), and Mr. Ahmed Bilal Kiyani (Doriva Cereals).
The highlight of the event, the NutriNova Student Startup Challenge, saw 18 student teams pitch innovative food sustainability solutions. The competition was judged by Dr. Kubra Mehmood (Bio Labs), Mr. Afzaal Malik (Group CEO, USEN Global), and Prof. Dr. Yasir Waheed. Prof. Dr. Rizwan Ashraf, Principal NSHS, closed the event, acknowledging the valuable contributions of speakers, judges, faculty, and students.
The event concluded with a prize distribution and an awareness walk, reinforcing NUST’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and social impact.
