-

The Department of Human Nutrition and Dietetics at NUST School of Health Sciences (NSHS) organized an educational visit on 5 December 2025 for 4th-semester students of the BS Human Nutrition & Dietetics (HND) program to the Nutrition Division at the National Institute of Health (NIH), Islamabad.

During the visit, the NIH team—led by Dr. Tanveer Ibrahim, Chief of the Nutrition Division—briefed students on the institute’s structure and key functions. The tour provided focused exposure to essential laboratory areas, including microbial culture handling, media preparation, inoculation and incubation, water testing (physicochemical and microbial), iodine testing in salt, fat and moisture analysis, proximate analysis, caffeine testing, hematological procedures, micronutrient profiling, and anthropometric assessments such as BMI, MUAC, and body composition.

Students also observed the use of advanced laboratory equipment, including biosafety cabinets, autoclaves, incubators, pH meters, filtration units, and body composition analyzers.

This visit, organized by the Department of Human Nutrition & Dietetics, strengthened students’ understanding of national food safety protocols and public health nutrition while connecting classroom theory with real-world laboratory practices and research readiness.
