Department of Cardiology

The Cardiology Department of Federal Government Polyclinic (PGMI), affiliated with NUST School of Health Sciences, Islamabad is the Pioneer setup of cardiology in Islamabad to provide services to resident of Islamabad/ Rawalpindi and its catchment areas including AJK, G.B & KPK. At that time the department was primitive and only clinical cardiology was being practiced. Currently all the modern cardiac facilities are available in the Department of Cardiology except Cath Lab & C.T Angio which are expected to be installed in near future.

The Department of cardiology provides comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic services to patients with cardiovascular diseases. Presently, the department has 05 consultants and round the clock cover is provided by the on duty Medical Officers have Post Graduate qualification in Cardiology. . The House Officers are trained for non-invasive cardiac expertise.

The department is equipped with a Nine-beds for Coronary Care Unit (CCU) for patients requiring intensive care, and Five-bed are dedicated for cardiology ward designated for cardiac patients requiring an intermediate level of care, with fully Monitored bed.

All cardiology outpatient clinics are located in one area, where a full-time cardiologist is available throughout the week. Non-invasive diagnostic services include Specialist-based transthoracic echocardiography, exercise tolerance testing (ETT), transesophageal echocardiography, stress echocardiography and 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure and ECG (holter) monitoring. Nuclear cardiology along with a comprehensive nuclear medicine service is also available.

We strive to provide state of the art health care to our patients while teaching and training our young doctors, nurses and undergraduate and postgraduate students, with emphasis on research, ethics and professionalism.
