Department of Rheumatology

The Department of Rheumatology at Federal Government Polyclinic Hospital / Nust School of Health
Sciences is dedicated to providing comprehensive and compassionate care for patients with
rheumatic diseases. Led by a team of experienced and skilled rheumatologists, we are
committed to improving the quality of life for individuals affected by autoimmune and
musculoskeletal conditions. It is a small but very well-organized department that specialises in
the diagnosis and management of a wide range of conditions, including but not limited to,
Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis, Osteoporosis, Ankylosing Spondylitis, Gout, Lupus,
Scleroderma, Vasculitis, Myositis, Sjogren’s syndrome and certain other connective tissue
diseases.

We are dedicated to offering personalised treatment plans to our patients that are tailored
keeping in view their unique needs. Our experienced doctors are well-versed in offering the
latest treatments to our patients and have access to the latest diagnostic and treatment options.
Collaboration is at the heart of our approach to patient care and also the research activities of
our department. We work in close collaboration with the Department of Internal Medicine,
Orthopaedics and Physiotherapy to provide a holistic treatment plan to our patients. Moreover,
since paediatric rheumatology is not established in Pakistan as yet, our department is
responsible for the management of paediatric rheumatology patients and we have a dedicated
day of the week when we run our exclusive paediatric rheumatology clinic.
Here in our department, we also believe in empowering our patients through education. Our
team provides resources and information to help individuals better understand and manage
their conditions through shared decision-making.

Satisfied with the high standards of patient care, the College of Physicians and Surgeons
accredited it for postgraduate training in rheumatology in the year 2019. We offer a
comprehensive teaching curriculum for postgraduate residents that covers the latest
advancements in rheumatology with an aim to equip the residents with the relevant knowledge
and skills needed to excel in the field. The other academic activities include regular teaching
sessions in the department, active participation in seminars and conferences and engaged
involvement in the exams held by the College of Physicians and Surgeons.
Research is another aspect that our department is very proud of. In a short span of time, we
were able to publish a few high-impact research papers thus furthering the knowledge of
Rheumatology in our region.
